Kate is a coach and Narrative Focused Trauma Care practitioner with more than twenty years of experience walking alongside people through growth, change, relationships, and some of life's most difficult seasons.
At the heart of Kate's work is a belief that our stories deserve to be approached with compassion, curiosity, and kindness.
Many of us have learned to be remarkably hard on ourselves. We judge our reactions, criticize the places where we struggle, and carry shame about parts of our stories we wish were different. We may know exactly where we want to change and still find ourselves unable to simply think, pray, or work our way out of patterns that have been shaped over a lifetime.
Kate offers another way. Rather than beginning with “What's wrong with me?” she invites people to become curious about a different question: “What happened in my story that makes this response make sense?”
That question creates room for compassion without ignoring the desire for change.
A compassionate witness
Kate believes there is something powerful about having another person enter our story with us.
Many painful stories have been carried privately for years. Others may have been told before but never truly received. Sometimes they have been minimized, spiritualized, explained away, or met with advice about what someone should have done differently.
Kate seeks to offer something different: a compassionate presence willing to stay with the complexity of the story. She brings warmth, empathy, encouragement, and curiosity into the room, helping clients approach wounded or shame-filled places with greater kindness.
Being witnessed does not change what happened. But it can change the experience of carrying it alone.
As stories are spoken and received with care, shame can begin to loosen. Experiences that once felt confusing can make more sense. Parts of ourselves we learned to hide can begin to emerge. And places that once seemed defined only by pain can begin to hold the possibility of healing.
Working with women
Kate has a particular heart for women who have spent years caring for everyone around them while losing touch with parts of themselves along the way.
She works with women navigating betrayal, loss, complicated marriages, separation, divorce, body image, shame, changing relationships, and questions about identity and desire.
Sometimes the question is, “How did I get here?” Sometimes it is, “Who am I now?” And sometimes it is simply, “How do I begin to hope again?”
Kate creates room for those questions without rushing toward easy answers.
Her own journey through betrayal and brokenness has deeply influenced the way she sits with women experiencing painful and uncertain seasons. She understands that healing rarely follows a straight line and that finding your way forward does not require denying the complexity of what has happened.
Instead, she helps women listen to their stories with greater compassion, reconnect with parts of themselves that may have been neglected or silenced, and move toward greater freedom, connection, and hope.
Working with couples
Marriage has been a central part of Kate's personal and professional story for many years.
With her husband Brad, Kate works with couples who want to move beyond managing conflict and better understand the stories beneath the patterns in their relationship.
Every couple brings two stories into the room. Finding intimacy in those stories is the healing work of couples' story work.
Kate brings a particularly relational and empathetic presence to couples work, helping each partner slow down enough to hear not only what the other person is saying, but something of the story underneath it.
Kate's training & experience
Kate's work has grown out of more than two decades of mentoring, ministry, coaching, and her own ongoing journey of healing.
She began her career in youth ministry, spending years mentoring teenagers and helping them navigate the complexity of relationships, identity, faith, and growing up.
Over time, her own experiences of marriage, betrayal, healing, and restoration deepened her desire to walk alongside adults facing complicated stories of their own.
Kate is a certified life coach through the Bridges Coaching Network and has pursued specialized training in Narrative Focused Trauma Care through The Allender Center at The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology.
Alongside Brad, she helped create One Flesh Marriage and the Still Becoming One podcast, where the two have spent years talking honestly about marriage, intimacy, sexuality, healing, and the work of building meaningful connection.
Today, Kate brings those years of experience together in her coaching and story work with individuals and couples.
